CREATIVE HEALTH
THANKS TO YOUR KINDNESS,
you’re enabling a range of creative therapies
for patients doing it tough.
How does art therapy help?
Healing through art
Did you know art therapy offers a powerful
way to facilitate healing and self-expression
when dealing with a chronic disease?
Navy veteran and former paramedic Mary
Hemingway has found healing and purpose
through our Veterans Art Program.
Michael Green has seen firsthand how
art therapy has helped his Parkinson’s, by
working with art therapist Natasha Dart on
painting a birdbox.
After overcoming personal challenges and
post-traumatic stress, Mary’s vibrant artworks
are now on display at RSL Care SA facilities,
bringing joy to residents and staff.
“When Michael first started on the birdbox,
he could only paint for five to 10 minutes
before needing a break or ‘freezing’ for
extended periods of time. Now he can paint
for 40 minutes with minimal breaks and no
freezing,” Natasha said.
Led by our art tutor Kaz Pedersen, the
Veterans Art Program offers veterans
the opportunity to explore the healing
potential of art whilst developing skills and
techniques through weekly sessions at the
Fullarton Art Studio.
Your donations are enabling stroke
survivors, people with Parkinson’s, arthritis,
veterans and their families access our lifechanging art therapy. Thank you!
