CLINICAL CARE
Vitamin C megadose showing promise
An SA-pioneered treatment for deadly sepsis
has been showing positive results in its first
national trial.
Megadoses of vitamin C – equivalent to
5000 oranges – had first been tested as a
sepsis treatment by Royal Adelaide Hospital
intensive care specialist Associate Professor
Mark Plummer, with funding from The Hospital
Research Foundation Group.
Now, results from its first national trial show
it improves organ dysfunction and the time
it takes to wean off blood pressure support
in patients given the dosage.
Thank you for progressing this vital work
that will have an impact worldwide!
Improving pathology tests
Pathology testing informs about 70%
of all medical decisions.
Therefore, if there are any issues with this
much-relied upon testing, it could lead to
missed diagnoses, unnecessary investigations
or treatments.
That’s why The Hospital Research Foundation
Group is proud to be supporting an intensive
research project that will take a deep dive into
current pathology testing in South Australia.
This will lead to data-driven solutions
to improve the use of pathology services
and develop a strategic action plan for
ongoing improvement.
