INFECTIOUS DISEASES
The threat of
infectious diseases
Infectious diseases affect billions of people worldwide.
With COVID-19 highlighting how important it is to be prepared
for disease outbreaks, we are proud to support research into
the prevention and treatment of many infectious diseases.
YOUR IMPACT IN 2023:
Continuing to trial a cutting-edge
COVID-19 vaccine
Testing the efficacy of a new vaccine
for Hepatitis C virus
Evaluating the T-cell immunity
of severe COVID-19 patients
Trialling the delivery and efficacy of
a world-first vaccine for the Zika virus
Investigating the body’s long-term
immune response to COVID-19
Developing a new vaccine target to
protect against malaria and Toxoplasma.

Vaccine delivered by skin patch?
Thanks to your kindness, Associate Professor
Branka Grubor-Bauk and team at the University of
Adelaide have developed a world-first vaccine for
the potentially deadly Zika virus.
And now, to improve how the vaccine is
administered, they have partnered with the University
of Queensland and commercial firm Vaxxas to test
delivering the vaccine via a patch on the skin.
Early results are showing the vaccine patch evoked
T-cell responses that were 270% higher than from a
needle or syringe vaccine delivery. Incredible!
