MENTAL HEALTH
Mental health support
Mental illness is very common, with one in five Australians
experiencing a mental health condition in any year.
Thanks to your donations, we are improving
support and research for mental illness.
YOUR IMPACT IN 2023:
Improving the care and triage given
to people in a mental health crisis who
call Triple Zero
Enhancing mental health medications
by developing new formulas that work
with the gut microbiome
Improving the triage of mental health
services for young adults battling
depression
Promoting education and awareness
of mental health through sport
Mind the gut
The link between the brain and the gut could
hold the key for developing better treatments
for mental illness.
Emerging evidence shows that mental health
and gut health are closely connected. However,
some mental health medications are actually
having adverse effects by killing the good
bacteria that lives in the gut.
With your support, Dr Paul Joyce hopes to
reduce these side effects by creating new
mental health medication formulas that work
with the gut’s microbiome, rather than against it.
