KIDNEY DISEASE
THANKS TO YOUR DONATIONS,
people living with chronic kidney disease are better
supported to manage their disease, dialysis journey
and transplant outcomes.
You helped Adela
become a mum
For Adela Tolic, becoming a mum was
always the dream – but one that seemed
out of reach after being diagnosed with
chronic kidney disease as a teenager.
Living with just one kidney that only functions
at 30%, pregnancy carries series risks.
But under the expert care of nephrologist
Professor Shilpa Jesudason – whose work
is supported by The Hospital Research
Foundation Group – Adela became a mum
not only once, but twice!
“I don’t think I would’ve been able to
become a mum without Dr Shilpa and her
research, because there was no research
about a case like me,” Adela said.
Dashboard keeping watch
An innovative dashboard is helping kidney
patients be better prepared for dialysis, all
with the click of a button.
Thanks to funding by The Hospital Research
Foundation Group, patients at the Central and
Northern Adelaide Renal and Transplantation
Service (CNARTS) are benefiting from the
creation of a ‘Kidney Watch’ dashboard – an
internal database to track a patient’s journey
from advanced kidney failure to dialysis.
The dashboard means that staff now have
access to up-to-date patient information, so
patients who are at risk of deteriorating can
be better identified and start their dialysis
journey earlier.
