PARKINSON’S
THANKS TO YOUR GENEROSITY,
people living with Parkinson’s benefit from specialised
support, care and world-leading research.
Specialist nurse support
Sally White (right) is just one of the
thousands of South Australians benefiting
from The Hospital Research Foundation
Group’s Parkinson’s nurse specialists.
Following her shock diagnosis, Sally was
quite overwhelmed: “I didn’t know what to
expect from it.”
Thankfully though, Sally found our free
nursing service, supported by a State
Government grant and led by nurse Brianna
Press (left), to help her manage her dayto-day symptoms, medications and overall
wellbeing.
“I don’t know how I would’ve managed
without it!”
New technology
improves diagnosis
Cutting-edge imaging technology being
tested in Adelaide could change the way
people with (or without) Parkinson’s are
diagnosed.
Thanks to your donations, researchers
at SAHMRI have been trailing the use of
18F-Dopa PET scans – where results have
shown that 26% of participants had a change
in diagnosis following the scan, including 19%
who were found not to have Parkinson’s.
And more people could soon have access
to the scans, with the trial assisting an
application to the Federal Government to
have the scans eligible for Medicare.
Thank you for improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s.
