AGEING WELL
Improving quality
of life as we age
About one in six Australians are over 65,
so helping people ‘age well’ is a top priority.
With your donations, we are funding projects that
enhance the physical, social and mental health of
older Australians, reduce their time spent in hospitals
or care, and boost their quality of life.
YOUR IMPACT IN 2023:
Preventing falls and fainting in
older people with Type 2 diabetes
by better managing their medication
and blood pressure
Engaging with aged care homes to
improve residents’ rehabilitation following
a hip fracture
Helping older people learn how to fall
properly with Judo-inspired exercises
Managing the Registry of Older
Australians (ROSA) to inform
best-practice in aged care
Empowering carers and improving the
quality of care for older people
Investigating how diet and microbiome
impact ageing and prevent age-related
conditions.
Educating people on how to prevent
frailty and reduce hospitalisations

What is autophagy?
Autophagy is the body’s way of removing damaged waste
– or junk – from cells to keep them healthy. Autophagy has
been shown to slow biological ageing in the lab.
To translate this knowledge to humans, Dr Julian Carosi is
investigating how nutrients influence autophagy with the
hope of harnessing the power of autophagy or mimicking its
effects to delay or prevent age-related diseases in humans.
