New research shows the
benefits of coffee
Finding answers to
unexplained chest pain
Game-changing new research shows a
cup of coffee a day could protect against a
common heart condition that is a cause of
heart failure, stroke and premature death.
For many women, living with persistent
unexplained chest pain – despite having
no blocked arteries – is a struggle often
dismissed or misunderstood.
The condition – atrial fibrillation (AF) – is
characterised by an irregular heartbeat and
affects one in three people.
This condition, known as Angina with
No Obstructive Coronary Arteries (ANOCA),
currently has no effective treatments
– until now.
The study was led by Professor Christopher
X Wong with support from The Hospital
Research Foundation Group, and showed
AF coffee drinkers experienced a significant
reduction in their AF compared to those
who avoided caffeine.
With support from The Hospital Research
Foundation Group, Dr Sivabaskari
Pasupathy is running a clinical trial to
develop an effective, targeted treatment
for these women.
This work is only possible thanks to kind-hearted people like you!
