Kelly’s strength from family
After a shock breast cancer diagnosis at
45, Port Augusta mum Kelly Clavell found
herself with a dilemma.
Her surgery and radiation treatment all had
to be done in Adelaide, but she couldn’t
bear the thought of leaving her autistic
son, nor could they afford three weeks of
accommodation in the city.
“He can’t live without me, but truthfully,
I can’t live without him,” Kelly said.
“I honestly thought about not even getting
the treatment, it all felt too hard.”
She eventually found Under Our Roof
run by The Hospital Research Foundation
Group, which has subsidised threebedroom homes that could fit her
whole family.
“It’s been amazing, there’s so much
space. Other places we would have
been sharing a kitchen with other
guests, so this has been great.”
Kelly received her treatment and is
now doing well! Thank you for helping
families like Kelly’s stay together during
their toughest times.
