CHILDHOOD CANCER
Upskilling our proton
therapy workforce
You should be so proud!
The Australian Bragg Centre for Proton
Therapy and Research is being built on
North Terrace, Adelaide, and expected
to see its first patients in 2025.
The Hospital Research Foundation Group
has been proudly funding start-up costs,
recruitment and additional training needed
for the centre.
A fresh $1.2 million was given in 2023 to
enable doctors to undertake specialist
proton therapy training in Adelaide and
further support the centre's preparation.
The SAHMRI-driven development is set
to be the first facility in the southern
hemisphere to offer lifesaving proton
treatment for children and young people
with hard-to-access cancers.
“We wouldn’t be as advanced as we are in
planning without the ongoing support of
The Hospital Research Foundation Group,"
said Professor Maria Makrides, SAHMRI
Executive Director.
