PROSTATE CANCER
THANKS TO YOUR SUPPORT,
you’re improving survival rates through greater detection,
treatment and management of prostate cancer.
New tech helping fight
prostate cancer
Promising new targets
found by chance
New research is using cutting-edge
technology to better understand how
prostate cancer tumours grow and why
some treatments fail.
A family of proteins has shown promising
signs as a potential new target for prostate
cancer treatment.
Thanks to your donations, Dr Chui Yan Mah
from Adelaide University is using spatial
omics to highlight how different cells can
affect the tumour’s growth.
SAHMRI’s Dr Maggie Centenera has identified
a group of proteins that could become novel
treatment targets – a discovery made while she
was actually working on another promising drug
that is currently in clinical trials.
An emerging field in medical research,
spatial omics uses intact tissue samples
so that cells can be analysed in their
natural environment.
“It was one of those serendipitous moments
because we might have found a new drug
target that could be more specific with less
side effects,” Dr Centenera said.
These discoveries are only possible thanks to generous donors like you!
