Free skin cancer
checks save lives
At least 16 lives have been saved from popup skin cancer clinics held in regional South
Australia in 2023, thanks to you!
There were 204 suspicious skin lesions detected
from the 503 people tested at the pop-up clinics,
held at community events in Victor Harbor,
Coober Pedy and Paskeville.

People identified with a suspcious lesion
were encouraged to see their doctor. While
subsequent results were hard to follow up,
the team know of at least 16 confirmed skin
cancers that resulted from the checks.
The project targeted regional areas because
of the 15-31% higher rate of skin cancer, plus
limited access to screening. Regional nurses
were also trained in the AI technology that
scans skin lesions.
